RIZAL LECTURE SERIES: "From Pages to Places: How Rizal Ended on the Map"
Rediscover Jose Rizal beyond the classroom—join inspiring talks, stories, and conversations that connect Rizal to today’s generation.
About this event
In commemoration of the 165th Birth Anniversary of Jose Rizal and the 70th Anniversary of the Rizal Law, this seminar takes participants on a “peripatetic” exploration of the street names and urban landscapes of Sampaloc, Manila’s University Belt. By examining the historical origins and meanings embedded in these spaces, the session highlights how cities preserve collective memory, shape identities, and foster nationalism. Drawing from historical geography, urban studies, and Rizal Studies, participants will discover how the streets of Manila serve as a living archive of the nation’s past and offer new perspectives on Rizal’s enduring legacy.
