Project ECO-KABATAAN
Project ECO-KABATAAN: Youth for Environmental Creativity and Opportunity is a community-based initiative.
About this event
Project ECO-KABATAAN: Youth for Environmental Creativity and Opportunity is a community-based initiative designed to address the interconnected issues of waste management, flooding, and youth unemployment in Brgy. Putatan. Based on interviews with barangay officials and residents, the community faces challenges related to improper waste segregation which contributes to flooding, as well as the presence of out-of-school youths (OSY) who lack access to productive activities and livelihood opportunities. This project aims to empower selected OSYs by teaching them how to transform recyclable waste materials into useful and marketable items such as eco-planters. Through environmental education, upcycling workshops, and basic entrepreneurship training, the project seeks to reduce waste in the community while equipping participating youths with practical skills that can generate income. By aligning with existing barangay initiatives such as “Gandang Tularan” (community clean-up efforts) and “Magtanim ay ’Di Biro” (urban gardening programs), the project promotes environmental awareness, youth empowerment, and sustainable livelihood development.
